UK goes down!

  • This has to help us with the recruitment of Gordon!

  • I know! I was not expecting this to happen.

  • I dont know how Kentucky can be so bad this year.

"Sometimes my teammates tell me I grab their rebounds," the Iranian-born forward said. "I apologize to them." -Arsalan Kazemi

  • If he was going to decide on Kentucky, I highly doubt this would matter. The incoming class is ridiculous. Plus not making the tourney was already bad enough.

Agreed. Still fun to see Kentucky lose though.

Exactly. Coach Cal's track record of sending kids to the NBA speaks for itself

That's a lot bigger deal IMO than the UK loss.

Name one kid he has "sent" to the NBA who wouldn't have made it there with any other coach? If he had coached say, Lilliard then I would agree, great coach. But I have yet to see him take a no name and turn him into anything.

Totally agree. Unfortunately, high schoolers don't

Exactly. You bring in the top 5 player at each position, it's no surprise some of them move on to the next level. The way this team underperformed this year says more than their success last year, IMO.

  • Kentucky was terrible this year. Even when Noel was healthy they weren't a top 25 team. I personally think Noel is overrated. Goodwin is solid, but not a complete baller and Poythress is inconsistent, but I think he has the most talent and upside on their team. It would benefit all three of them to come back for their sophomore year. This could potentially be Kentucky's team in '13-'14:

    PG- Andrew Harrison/Ryan Harrow/Jarrod Polson
    SG- Aaron Harrison/Archie Goodwin/Jon Hood
    SF- Andrew Wiggins/Alex Poythress/James Young
    PF- Julius Randle/Marcus Lee/Kyle Wiltjner/ Derrick Willis
    C - Norlens Noel/Dakari Johnson/Wille Cauley Stein

Wowsers!!! Lol. That team could beat the Charlotte Bobcats. It's very possible that Noel, Cauley-Stein, Goodwin and Poythress go to the NBA, but it would be smart for a couple of them to come back. At least Poythress. If he played up to his potential he'd be a lottery pick, but I don't think he would go that high if he went this year.

Even with his injury I think Noel will still be a top 3 pick. Some teams going to get a bust with him. I just don't think he's that good. Of course he could add weight, but he doesn't have the frame to add on enough mass to be physically intimidating IMO. He's a hell of a defensive player though.

Goodwin will be a mid 1st round pick if he goes this year or waits another year so he might as well split. Cauley-Stein is another mid round pick if he stays or goes. He's another overrated player IMO and won't be that good I'm the NBA. He should've stuck with football and played TE.

Wiggins will probably end up at FSU or Kansas and I think Randle will go to Kansas as well. Still with the Harrison's, Poythress, Young, Lee and Dakari Johnson they are stacked and will be preseason #1 and the Natty favorite probably.

Memphis and Oregon(with Gordon) will be right in the picture though. And Maryland with a PG in Roddy Peters will be a very, very good team too. Three sleeper teams.

  • Kentucky was a bad team this year. Cal spent the summer coaching the Dominican Republic Olympic team. Harrow and Polson are not Division 1 point guards. Goodwin is selfish. Poythress is lazy. Cauley Stein only started playing basketball a couple of years ago when he outgrew his first love - football. Nerlens is the real deal with a huge heart but his knee injury was gruesome. Of course, next year they are like last year only bigger. Dakari Johnson is still growing and just passed 7'0". Andrew Harrison is a bull with a point guard handle. Tomorrow at 10:15 AM PST Julius Randle decides between UK and KU on ESPNU. Aaron Gordon will be watching.

No way Cauley-Stein is a first round prospect right now. If he declares for the draft he'll be in for a rude awakening IMO. Don't get me wrong, he definitely has talent but he hasn't tapped enough for him to be considered a first round prospect.

I don't even think Noel should be drafted #1 overall. Look at Anthony Davis, a better all-around player, still hasn't really shined how former #1 picks have. He is young and will probably grow into an all-star at one point though but I don't Noel or Cauley-Stein will. Big mans are a lost art now. Guys like Bismack Biyombo, Derrick Favors, Enes Kanter, Greg Monroe, Demarcus Cousins (performs better than the others but still to immature). The last one to probably pan out, off the top of my mind, is Blake Griffin and neither Noel, Cauley-Stein and Davis are anything like him.

I'm with you, Noel and Cauley-Stein are way overrated and I wouldn't want to waste a #1 pick on Noel or any first rounder on Cauley-Stein. In fact, I wouldn't waste a top 15 pick on any Kentucky player this year.

I agree. I don't think Cayley Stein is 1st round caliber, but I still think some team would take him based on upside. A lot of NBA teams will do that these days especially with 7 footers. Alex Len for Maryland is a perfect example. He'll be a top 10 pick most likely, but he hasn't played like a lottery pick. I think a team will roll the dice on WCS.

  • I am just glad that one of these "one and done" teams flopped. The current rules are ruining college ball. Let them go straight to the NBA from HS or they have wait three years. The quality of college hoops has declined dramatically over the past several years.
