"gentleman's agreement" about not poaching commits? Gimme a break, does anyone really believe that? Sounds like PR fluff to me. Regardless, welcome to the real world Big10 football.

And illegal? That word sure got dropped a lot, but of course they never actually said what was illegal. Convenient. Sounds like sour grapes.

So we poached Armstead, who was originally committed to USC, Addison who was committed to TAM, Allen who was committed to OSU and Brown who was committed to MI. We had Cottrell taken from us. Castro we poached from WA and were poached upon in turn by UCLA. We gained 5 and lost 2, counting Castro as both poached and a poachee.

Should we count Armstead? He'd basically given up on USC and gone over to Cal before Supreme Poacher Tosh was himself poached.

Should there be a rule about this? I'm thinking yes unless the contact with the new school is explicitly initiated by the recruit. It also seems that contact via social media or "Call of Duty" needs to be limited. Until it is, though, everything goes.

I think you also have to take into account the hiring of new coaches as is the case here, and with Jim Mora at UCLA... both coaches came into situations when recruiting was already at a fever pitch and both had some kids already committed to the schools they were hired at.... Of course they are going to look around at kids and say that one fits my system I am going after him.... some of those kids are going to be committed already and they should take a run at them, but they should also be willing to accept a kid saying I am solid with my committ please move on and then actually move on....
