What could have been 2007

  • Tim Tebow just got his 2007 season named as the 5th best individual season in college football and if people remember correctly Dennis Dixon was destined for the heisman that year before the ASU/Arizona games. Oh what could have been for Dennis Dixon and the Oregon football program

  • Yeah, a lot of outsiders like to label us a three year wonder. We were in the NC game that year if Dixon stays healthy and it was only six years before that we won the Fiesta bowl.

Exactly if DD doesnt go down we would of had our 1st Natty and1ST Heisman winner thats a fact, but hey its still out there for the taking and I know Mariota and to an extent BB have those same instincts to do the same thing and I believe this year we do it, that is win the NATTY, and u know what I find quite funny about this is why do we always get these SC HOMERS on our board because their JEALOUS of the way the DUCKS are getting it done by innovation not tradition and I myself find that very COOL, but everybody from as far back as the east coast hate that and their all jealous to a degree. This is a great program and its just starting to get going so after we win it this year I guarentee no SC HOMERS in their right frame of mind will get on our board after this year and no more listening to those MUTTS up north either. GO DUCKS.

  • You guys forget who else went down that year with injury:

    Brian Paysinger acl
    Cam Colvin leg fx
    Jeremiah Johnson acl
    Brady Leaf ankle fx
    Nate Costa
    John Bacon acl
    Casey Mathews shoulder
And I think Rashon Harris and Victor Felipe as well

We were decimated at QB. Against UCLA even Kempt went out and we had Crenshaw at QB. Roper did not play until the Civil War.

Trust me I remember, but I was talking about Dennis Dixon's individual season. If all those people hadn't also been gone especially one of the two qb's we could have survived UCLA and we would have beaten the beavers in that uniform travesty of a game.

And we probably would've won too, that wasn't anywhere near the best LSU team.

  • That team was amazing. I agree; with Dixon they may have made the NC game even with the other injuries.

I got tired of hearing Oregon State fans say "injuries don't matter" or "well, find some depth". When you lose that many people of that degree of significance, it hurts.

Oregon does seem to have been snakebit over the years by injuries to key players at key times...(Droughns, etc..)

A fact huh? That's revisionist theory IMO, considering Oregon beat SC's backup qb in 07. So can I say if John David Booty plays that game in Autzen we beat Oregon and win another NC? No, it didn't happen.

Sanchez was better than Booty. None of the Duck backup QBs were close to Dixon besides Costa, and he was hurt too.

But at the time JDB was superior to Sanchez. USCs backups were definitely preferable to Oregons

I agree with your idea that revisionist theory means nothing. I am curious why you decided to jump over on this thread to call out someone for revisionist theory when you have ample opportunity to point out the same issues over and over again on FO247...see the following thread for plenty of examples. Hold your own fanbase accountable too (preferbly first) please.

At that point in their careers, Sanchez wasn't better than Booty.

That thread is no longer about football. Trying to talk football with Bama fans is damn near impossible.

I'm not trying to call people out, I'm trying to talk football.

Ya. I agree with your points. 2007 was a brutal finish for Oregon but that's just part of football. USC with JDB and Oregon with some of their other starters healthy could have been an even more epic game.

Fair enough, everyone plays revisionist history...that's all. Plus, as an outsider that thread is fairly entertaining. Both fanbases are swimming in false bravado and insecurities. Back to football though...I actually watched that 07 game at ESPN zone in downtown Disney. Packed with SC fans. It was a very hard fought game. Sanchez wasn't that much different than Booty, but I'll certainly say that I'm not sure Booty would have made the same interception mistake at the end of the game. Then again, booty wasn't exactly leading the Trojans up and down the field all day either.

  • While we were almost certainly headed for the title game that year no one can say we would have won it no question. I understand being homer but good lord.

We were loaded that year though just wasn't meant to be. That Cal ending was BRUTAL. That was my first year with season tix, I'll never forget it.

There was not a powerhouse team that year in '07. Remember all the #2 team losses? We were one of several. LSU won the title with two losses.

It was a relatively weak year for CFB, and before Dixon's injury we were pounding everyone save for the Cal game. I don't think that was all that special of an LSU team that year and I think we would've beaten them by 10-14 points. Of course we'll never know.

  • Why is LSU even being discussed? They wouldn't have been in the title game, the Buckeyes would have.

Just was judging by who eventually won it. And if Dixon had stayed healthy who knows what else would've changed. And we likely would've beaten tOSU as well.
