spring practice

  • the spring practice dates for the entire pac 12 are listed on oregonlive. im assuming everyone is allowed the same amount of practices but was wondering why USC's is 5 weeks long and we are cramming ours into 2 weeks. my personal opinion is thats its better to have a couple days off and let some of the knowledge youve learned sink in and come back fresh.

  • I would have to think that weather is one pretty big factor, and maybe Chip is trying to make it as close as possible to the regular season as possible, not sure.

Really? Cause 23 hrs ago he tweeted that he'd be in Eugene in 2 1/2 months - which would be like early May. IIRC he has to finish at JUCO and won't be enrolled until the summer. As far as I remember, the only guys that Chip mentioned in his signing day press conference were JRod (already enrolled), Bayliss, and Armstead. I could be wrong though.

  • why is this hard for some here to figure out? spring practice starts in late march and ends in late april. this doesn't change by more than a week from year to year. and yes, every school get the same number of practices. i'm going to assume practices might be closed

  • To sum up:

    1. Spring practices are over 4 weeks, finishing w/Spring game Apr 28th.

    2. New Spring enrollers are JRod, Armstead and Baylis. No others confirmed so far.

    3. Kyle Long will be here in 7 weeks or 2.5 months, basically the same timeframe.

    4. Since most practices will be in the Mo, expect them to be closed since CK claims it's a safety hazard having too many media members on the thin sidelines. This was illuded to by Andy Mac, media services director (asst?), when I tweeted him a while back.

    5. Grrrrrrrrr, really wanted Spring practices open.

    Well done on the summary.

Last year I actually got to watch one indoors. To bad if the close them down, but the sidelines aren't that big. Also, if I remember , you get 15 practices (I think was the number last year), and they are basically spaced out every other day-ish so that is why it takes a month. Anyone else remember differently.

    That's what I thought #3...same time frame

    -1 :(

Are you guys using a different calendar system than I am? Last time I checked, 2.5 months was more like 11 weeks....not 7 weeks. While I get it's "basically" the same time frame, it's enough of a significant difference that it means Long won't be here for Spring practices....which was one of the main issues in question. I'm not trying to be a detail snob, so I apologize if it seems that way....I just think in this case, the details (i.e. - a 4 week difference) are worth noting.

It's great that he'll be here for all of the Summer workouts and I don't think his missing Spring ball will greatly effect his chances of earning the starting LT spot because I simply think he's that dominant that he'll be able to quickly adjust from JUCO and earn the starts, but it would have obviously been nice if he could have had those additional 15 practices to start gelling with the other OL and learning the system a bit more.

    cheers

I see your point, I guess since Spring ball starts in 5 weeks and I knew he was never a possible Spring enrollee, 7 weeks or 10 (not 11 ;-)) were pretty much the same thing. He'll be here for Summer classes and team organized workouts. 3 weeks more or less of lifting with the team isn't a huge difference IMO.

As for your 2nd point, I totally agree and have posted as much. I think he'll get a lot of time early, but coming off the bench. If he's as good as advertised, I bet he'll move into the starting role around the beginning of Pac-12 play.

the starting date and spring game for each school is listed on oregon live. i dont know how reliable the sporting news source is but it clearly says april 13 to april 28. why do you feel the need to be an ass?

  • Like I posted earlier practice starts on April 3rd, they must have made a typo and put a 1 in front of the three.
