Ducks Win Despite Rash of Injuries

Oregon was able to overcome a rash of injuries Saturday night to beat Cal 59-17 and improved to 10-0 on the season.

Marcus Mariota had a career night against Cal throwing for 6 touchdowns and 377 yards.

Marcus Mariota threw for six touchdowns and a career-high 377 yards and no interceptions while also tying a school record for six touchdown passes.

Oregon's offensive production is mostly known for their run game but on a night when Oregon needed the passing game they came through. The Ducks threw for 395 yards for 14.1 per catch while adding 180 yards on the run game.

Oregon's entire starting defensive line wiped out due to injuries and multiple other Ducks nursing injuries the Ducks were able to extend the nation's longest winning streak to 13 games. The Ducks also became the first school in FBS history to score 30 points in 23 straight games and 40 points in 13 straight games.

Oregon's defense held Cal to just 349 yards and limiting Cal to just 126 yards in the second half.

Josh Huff and De'Anthony Thomas had 109 and 101 yards receiving and became the first tandem to go over 100 yards at Oregon since 2007 and the first time under Chip Kelly. Huff caught three touchdown passes with a long of 39. Colt Lyerla added four catches for 64 yards and two touchdowns.

The Ducks were able to pull away for good when Cal's Allan Bridgeford was pressured by freshman Arik Armstead on a screen pass and threw the ball to only be intercepted by Boseko Lokombo. The very next play Mariota hit Huff for a 35-yard touchdown pass to make it 31-17. Huff and Mariota paired up again the following drive for a 39-yard scoring strike to push Oregon's lead to 38-17.

Mariota connected with Lyerla on a 14-yard pass on the first play of the fourth quarter to make it 45-17. On Oregon's next drive Mariota topped off his career night hitting senior Will Muprhy in the end zone for a 7-yard touchdown pass. It was Murphy's first career touchdown.

Bryan Bennett replaced Mariota on the next drive and connected with freshman B.J. Kelley on a third and long for 18-yards and the game's final touchdown.

Kenjon Barner suffered a hand injury early in the first half and at one point left the game. Barner was held to just 20 rushes and 65 yards. Byron Marshall added nine runs for 39 yards and a touchdown.

Barner did add three catches for 35 yards in the passing game.

Allan Bridgeford completed just 9-of-21 for 113 yards and a touchdown but he did throw two interceptions. Isi Sofele added 15 carries and 134 yards and a touchdown.
